Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you want to know about piercings — from preparation to healing

Here you will find answers to the most common questions our clients ask. If your question is not listed, do not hesitate to contact us directly — we are happy to advise you personally.

Does piercing hurt?

At XS Piercing, we use local anesthesia as standard — the piercing itself is completely pain-free. Only the small prick of the numbing injection is briefly noticeable.

Where should I get my piercing done?

The placement depends on your personal taste and desired visibility. We are happy to advise you on the most aesthetically and anatomically favorable options.

How many piercings can be done at once?

In principle, multiple piercings can be done in one session. However, we recommend doing fewer at a time for a more elegant look and better healing.

Ring or bar — which is better?

Both heal equally well and are interchangeable. The choice is purely aesthetic. For initial jewelry, we often recommend a bar as it is less likely to get caught.

What material is best?

We exclusively use titanium (implant-grade). It is biocompatible and hypoallergenic. Gold and silver are not suitable for fresh piercings.

Can a tongue piercing damage nerves?

With correct placement, the risk is virtually zero. There is neither loss of taste nor paralysis. Our years of experience guarantee safe placement.

Do I need to remove my piercing for MRI/X-ray?

Only if the piercing is directly in the examination area. Titanium jewelry is MRI-compatible. Inform your doctor about any existing piercings.

Can a piercing grow out?

Surface piercings and microdermals have a higher migration risk. Deeper piercings (ear, nose, navel, intimate) generally do not grow out.

How quickly does a piercing channel close?

Very quickly! Especially in the first months. Even after years, a channel can narrow within hours. We recommend never removing the jewelry for longer than necessary.

Will scars remain after removal?

Usually only minimal, barely visible marks remain. With some piercings (e.g., large gauge tunnels), the marks may be more noticeable.

How long does healing take?

This varies greatly by piercing type: earlobes 4–6 weeks, cartilage 3–6 months, navel 6–12 months (slowest), intimate 4–8 weeks.

What should I do if there is an infection?

Slight redness and crusting are normal. For pus, severe swelling, or fever, contact us immediately. Do NOT remove the piercing yourself — the channel can close and trap the infection inside.

When can I swim/go in the sun?

At least 2 weeks no swimming pool, lake, or ocean. Sun is possible, but the area may tan differently. Avoid tanning beds during healing.

What risks are there?

As with any procedure: infections (rare with proper care), bleeding (minimal), allergic reactions (virtually impossible with titanium), and local irritation. Severe complications are extremely rare.

What is the minimum age for getting a piercing?

From 18 years without restrictions. From 16 years with a written consent form from a legal guardian and their accompaniment. Intimate piercings exclusively from 18.
