Nipple piercing: A piercing for everyone

The nipple piercing has experienced an enormous surge in popularity in recent years and ranks among the most sought-after piercings of all. It is no longer a niche product but rather a fashion statement worn by all genders. Whether women or men, single or as a pair: The nipple piercing exudes self-confidence and individuality.

At XS Piercing Basel, we offer the nipple piercing in various variants. The standard placement is horizontal, i.e. running horizontally through the nipple. A vertical placement is also possible on request, and the particularly bold opt for both directions simultaneously (cross piercing).

Placement & variants

  • Horizontal (standard): The piercing channel runs horizontally through the base of the nipple. This is the most common and generally most uncomplicated variant.
  • Vertical: The piercing channel runs vertically through the nipple. Can be worn as a single piercing or in combination with a horizontal piercing.
  • Single (1x): Many clients choose only one side. This is perfectly fine and has its own appeal. Price: CHF 120 / 140 with anaesthesia.
  • Pair (2x): Both nipples in one session. The symmetrical variant is particularly popular. Price: CHF 220 / 240 with anaesthesia.

Piercing procedure

The nipple piercing requires careful placement that is tailored to the anatomy of the individual nipple. We mark the entry and exit points symmetrically at the base of the nipple and discuss the placement with you.

On request, we offer a local anaesthesia that makes the procedure pain-free. We particularly recommend this for sensitive nipples or when both sides are pierced in one session. The actual piercing takes only a moment.

As initial jewellery, we use a straight barbell made from titanium (ASTM F136). This is slightly longer than the final jewellery to accommodate the initial swelling. The change to a shorter barbell occurs after a few weeks, once the swelling has subsided.

Sensitivity & changes

A common question concerns the effect of the piercing on nipple sensitivity. Here are the key facts:

  • Increased sensitivity: The majority of clients report a permanently increased sensitivity of the nipple after the piercing. This is generally perceived as positive.
  • Temporary numbness: In the first few days after piercing, the nipple may be temporarily numb or less sensitive. This usually normalises within a few weeks.
  • Visual change: The piercing can cause the nipple to stand more upright. This effect is particularly visible in persons with flatter nipples.

Healing & care

The healing duration is 4 to 6 months. During this time, consistent care is essential:

  • Clean twice daily with sterile saline solution. Let the water run gently over the piercing in the shower.
  • Wear a close-fitting, clean bra or sports top that keeps the jewellery in place and reduces friction.
  • Wear a close-fitting top when sleeping to prevent catching on bedding.
  • Be careful when putting on and taking off clothing, especially with towels and jumpers.
  • No swimming pool, sauna or hot tub during the healing phase.

Inverted nipples? We can help!

If you suffer from inverted nipples, a nipple piercing can serve as a permanent correction in many cases. The piercing keeps the nipple in an upright position and prevents retraction. Learn more on our dedicated page for inverted nipple correction.
