Eyebrow Piercing

What is the Eyebrow Piercing?

The eyebrow piercing is a surface piercing that is placed through the skin fold along the eyebrow. It is one of the most distinctive facial piercings and gives the gaze a special expression. The placement is usually at the outer third of the eyebrow but can be adjusted according to preference and anatomy.

Unlike many other piercings, the eyebrow piercing does not pass through cartilage but exclusively through soft skin tissue. This makes the procedure comparatively low in pain. At the same time, however, it also means that this piercing has a higher rejection rate than piercings through cartilage or mucous membrane, making careful placement and aftercare particularly important.

Variants

Vertical Eyebrow Piercing

The classic and most common variant. The piercing channel runs vertically through the eyebrow, so that both ends of the jewellery are visible above and below the brow. A curved barbell is used as jewellery, which follows the natural curvature of the eyebrow. This variant has the lowest rejection rate among eyebrow piercings.

Horizontal Eyebrow Piercing

In this variant, the piercing channel runs horizontally, parallel to the eyebrow arch. Both jewellery ends are visible in a line. Since the piercing channel lies more shallowly under the skin, the rejection risk is somewhat higher than with the vertical piercing. An experienced hand and the correct depth are crucial here.

Bridge Piercing

The bridge piercing sits horizontally on the bridge of the nose, between the eyebrows. It is a striking statement piercing that creates its own unique look. Since it is a pure surface piercing, the rejection risk is higher than with other variants. We use special surface bars here to minimise the risk.

The Piercing Procedure

After a thorough consultation, we determine the optimal placement together. The eyebrow region is highly vascularised and rich in nerves, which makes precise work particularly important. We mark the entry and exit points and let you check the position in the mirror.

On request, we administer local anaesthesia. The actual piercing with the needle takes just a moment. Afterwards, the initial jewellery (curved barbell or surface bar made of titanium ASTM F136) is inserted. Slight swelling in the first few days is completely normal and subsides quickly.

Healing & Aftercare

The healing time is 6 to 8 weeks. Since the eyebrow region has good blood supply, healing generally proceeds swiftly. Please follow these aftercare guidelines:

  • Clean twice daily with sterile saline solution. Gently soak and dab off any crusting.
  • No make-up or eyebrow products in the area of the piercing during the healing phase.
  • Be careful when putting on and taking off clothing so you do not snag the jewellery.
  • Avoid sleeping on your face and make sure no hair pulls on the piercing.
  • Sunscreen and sunglasses can be problematic in the first few weeks; choose glasses that do not press on the piercing.

Risks with Surface Piercings

As a surface piercing, the eyebrow piercing has a higher rejection risk than piercings through cartilage or more stable tissue. The body can recognise the jewellery as a foreign body and slowly push it outward (migration). Signs of this include:

  • The jewellery appears to sit closer to the skin surface than when it was pierced
  • The skin between the puncture points becomes thinner or reddish
  • The piercing channel becomes visibly shorter
