Nose & Septum
Nose Piercings Overview
Nose piercings are among the oldest and most widespread forms of body adornment worldwide. They combine tradition with modern style and offer an impressive range of possibilities. Whether a subtle nostril stud, a striking septum ring or an eye-catching bridge piercing: at XS Piercing Basel you will find the right variant for your personal style.
Nostril Piercing
4 - 8 weeks
Low
CHF 80 / 100
Stud, ring or L-shape
The nostril piercing is the classic nose piercing and one of the most popular piercings overall. It is placed through the nostril and can be positioned on the left or right side. The exact positioning is determined individually based on your nose shape and preferences.
The piercing passes through thin cartilage and some skin tissue, making the procedure comparatively low in pain. Many clients describe the pain as a brief sting that quickly subsides. Reflexive tearing may occur, which is completely normal and unrelated to pain sensation.
Popular jewellery styles: The classic nostril stud (nose stud) with crystal or ball is timelessly elegant. For a more striking look, small nose rings (hoops) or clickers are available. L-shape studs and spirals are also possible as initial jewellery.
Septum Piercing
6 - 8 weeks
Low to medium
CHF 100 / 120
Circular barbell, clicker, ring
The septum piercing passes through the thin skin membrane (columella) between the two nostrils, below the cartilage. When correctly placed, it goes through soft tissue and not through cartilage, making the piercing significantly less painful than many expect.
The septum piercing has the great advantage that it can be made invisible when needed: a circular barbell or retainer can simply be flipped up into the nose and is then not visible from the outside. This makes it ideal for people who wish to remain discreet in a professional environment.
Popular jewellery styles: The septum clicker with decorative elements is currently particularly popular. But classic circular barbells (horseshoes), seamless rings and elaborately decorated clickers with gemstones are also in demand. The variety of septum jewellery is enormous.
Bridge Piercing
8 - 12 weeks
Low
CHF 100 / 120
Curved barbell
The bridge piercing sits horizontally on the bridge of the nose, between the eyes. It is a pure surface piercing, as it only passes through skin and no cartilage at all. The piercing is surprisingly low in pain, as the skin on the bridge of the nose is thin and easily accessible.
Since it is a surface piercing, there is an increased rejection risk. The use of a suitable curved barbell and the correct depth of placement are crucial for the longevity of this piercing. At XS Piercing Basel, we have extensive experience with bridge piercings and will honestly advise you on the chances of success with your individual anatomy.
Healing & Aftercare
Healing time varies depending on the type of piercing and individual factors. In general, the following aftercare guidelines apply to all nose piercings:
- • Clean twice daily with sterile saline solution (NaCl 0.9%). Gently soak any crusting.
- • Do not turn or pull at the jewellery. Leave the piercing alone as much as possible.
- • Be extremely careful when blowing your nose. It is best to gently dab rather than blow hard.
- • No make-up or foundation in the area of the piercing during the healing phase.
- • Be cautious during colds: frequent nose blowing can impair healing.
Tip for Jewellery Changes
Only change the initial jewellery once the piercing is fully healed. The first jewellery change for a nostril can be a bit tricky. Feel free to come to our studio; we will help you with the change free of charge and show you how to do it correctly.
