What Is the Labia Piercing?
The labia piercing is one of the most versatile intimate piercings for women. It can be placed on the inner labia (labia minora) or the outer labia (labia majora) and offers numerous design possibilities — from a single discreet piercing to symmetrical pairs or multiple piercings.
Labia piercings are primarily aesthetically motivated, but depending on placement and jewelry, they can also have a slight functional component. They are among the oldest and most traditional forms of body adornment and have been practiced for centuries in various cultures.
Inner vs. Outer Labia
Inner Labia (Labia Minora)
The inner labia are thinner and consist of very soft, well-vascularized tissue. Piercings in this area typically heal faster than those on the outer labia — usually within 4 to 6 weeks.
- ✓ Faster healing (4-6 weeks)
- ✓ Thinner tissue — easier procedure
- ✓ Can offer slight functional stimulation
- ✓ Ideal for rings (BCR)
Requirement: Sufficiently developed inner labia.
Outer Labia (Labia Majora)
The outer labia consist of thicker, firmer tissue with a fat layer. Piercings in this area require slightly longer healing — typically 6 to 8 weeks — and need sturdier jewelry.
- ✓ Longer healing (6-8 weeks)
- ✓ Thicker tissue — more robust hold
- ✓ Primarily aesthetic
- ✓ Suitable for heavier jewelry
Anatomically possible for most women.
Single or as a Pair
Labia piercings can be worn as a single piercing or as a symmetrical pair. Multiple combinations are also possible — for example, several rings along the inner labia, creating a row-like appearance.
Symmetrical pairs are especially popular, as they create a harmonious, balanced appearance. With the pair option, both piercings can be done in the same session, provided the anatomy allows it. Alternatively, some of our clients prefer to pierce one side first and add the second side after healing.
During the consultation, we discuss your wishes regarding placement, number and jewelry style. We show you the various possibilities and recommend the optimal solution for your anatomy and lifestyle.
Jewelry Options
Various jewelry styles are available for labia piercings, all made from implant-grade titanium (ASTM F136):
- Ball Closure Ring (BCR): The classic for labia piercings. A closed ring with a ball clasp that elegantly encircles the piercing. Especially popular on the inner labia.
- Segment Ring: Similar to the BCR, but with a seamless click closure for a cleaner appearance.
- Curved Barbell: A curved barbell with two balls that sits more discreetly than a ring and is less likely to catch on clothing.
- Captive Bead Ring: A ring with a decorative ball or gemstone that provides a special aesthetic highlight.
The size of the initial jewelry is individually adapted to your anatomy. After complete healing, you can switch to various designs — including options in gold or with gemstones.
Healing & Care
Healing time varies depending on placement:
- Inner Labia: 4 to 6 weeks
- Outer Labia: 6 to 8 weeks
For optimal healing, we recommend:
- Clean daily: Rinse the area morning and evening with sterile saline solution (0.9% NaCl) or lukewarm water. Avoid perfumed soaps or aggressive cleaning agents.
- Sexual abstinence: For at least 3 to 4 weeks, you should abstain from sexual activity in the intimate area.
- Loose clothing: Wear loose, breathable cotton underwear. Avoid tight pants, thongs or synthetic materials that could rub against the jewelry or trap moisture.
- Avoid bodies of water: Swimming pools, saunas and open waters should be avoided during the healing phase.
- Do not move the jewelry: Do not twist or push the jewelry unnecessarily. Only touch the piercing with clean hands.
Tip for Multiple Piercings
With multiple labia piercings in one session, initial swelling may be more pronounced. If needed, gently cool the area with a clean ice pack wrapped in a cloth. Avoid direct skin contact with the cooling agent.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is the labia piercing painful?
At XS Piercing, every intimate piercing is performed with local anesthesia as standard. Without anesthesia, the pain level depends on whether the inner or outer labia are pierced. The inner labia are thinner and heal faster, but the piercing pain is slightly more intense. With our local anesthesia, you will barely feel the procedure.
Can I get multiple labia piercings at the same time?
Yes, it is possible to get multiple labia piercings in one session — for example, a symmetrical pair. We will individually advise you on whether this is anatomically and healing-wise sensible. With multiple piercings, aftercare is somewhat more involved and healing time may be extended.
What jewelry is best suited?
Ball closure rings (BCR) and curved barbells made of implant-grade titanium (ASTM F136) are particularly well suited for labia piercings. The size and shape of the jewelry is individually adapted to your anatomy. After complete healing, you can switch to various designs.
How long must I abstain from sexual activity?
We recommend sexual abstinence for at least 3 to 4 weeks. This applies especially to activities involving direct contact with the piercing. After this initial phase, you should listen to your body and wait longer if you experience discomfort. The use of condoms is advisable during the remaining healing phase.
