What is the dydoe?

The dydoe is a small barbell that runs horizontally through the glans ridge (corona glandis). It traverses the prominent edge that forms the transition between the glans surface and the penile shaft.

Unlike piercings such as the Prince Albert or ampallang, which pass through the glans itself, the dydoe sits relatively shallow in the tissue of the glans ridge. This makes it less invasive but gives it a somewhat higher migration risk than deeper piercings.

Dydoes are almost exclusively placed in pairs or multiple arrangements. A single dydoe is possible but appears optically asymmetrical. The typical placement is symmetrically on the left and right of the upper side of the corona, with further piercings added after complete healing.

The dydoe is particularly popular among circumcised men, as the corona of the glans is often more prominent after circumcision, allowing the piercings to stand out especially well. However, uncircumcised men can also have dydoes placed.

King's Crown

The King's Crown is an impressive arrangement of multiple dydoe piercings around the entire corona of the glans. Depending on anatomy and desired density, a complete King's Crown typically comprises 6 to 12 individual dydoe piercings.

The result is a crown-shaped pattern of small barbells that impresses both visually and functionally. The evenly distributed barbells produce enhanced stimulation for the partner during intercourse.

Important: A King's Crown is a long-term project. We strongly recommend proceeding step by step:

  1. Step 1: Start with a symmetrical pair (2 dydoes), typically on the upper side of the corona.
  2. Step 2: After complete healing (at least 12 weeks), further pairs can be added.
  3. Step 3: Repeat the process until the desired density is achieved.

This step-by-step approach gives the tissue sufficient time for regeneration between sessions and minimises the risk of complications. A complete King's Crown therefore extends over several months.

Migration risk

The dydoe has a higher migration risk than most other genital piercings. Migration describes the gradual movement of the jewellery out of the tissue — the body classifies the jewellery as a foreign body and attempts to push it out.

The reason for the increased risk lies in the shallow placement of the dydoe. Unlike piercings that pass through thicker tissue (such as the PA through the glans), the dydoe sits in a relatively thin tissue layer at the glans ridge. Mechanical stress — from friction, tight clothing or sexual activity — can accelerate the migration process.

To minimise the migration risk, we employ the following measures at XS Piercing:

  • Longer barbells: We deliberately use slightly longer barbells that capture more tissue and therefore sit more securely.
  • Optimal placement: The barbell is placed to achieve sufficient tissue depth without affecting underlying structures.
  • Implant-grade material: High-quality titanium (ASTM F136) minimises tissue reactions and thus the rejection risk.

Combination with other piercings

Dydoes combine excellently with other male genital piercings and together create a unique overall appearance:

Dydoe + Prince Albert

The most popular combination. The PA forms the main piercing on the underside of the glans, while the dydoes accentuate the corona. Together, they create a comprehensive decoration of the glans.

Dydoe + Apadravya/Ampallang

Particularly impressive: The large glans piercings combined with a series of dydoes. The result is a visually and functionally impressive ensemble that requires considerable experience and patience.

Healing and aftercare

The healing time for the dydoe is 8 to 12 weeks. Since dydoes are typically placed as pairs, you need to care for multiple piercings simultaneously during healing.

  • Cleaning: Clean each individual barbell daily with sterile saline solution (0.9% NaCl). Gently soak and dab away crusts.
  • Sexual abstinence: Refrain from sexual activities for at least 4 to 6 weeks. Mechanical friction is particularly problematic for dydoes during healing.
  • Clothing: Wear loose cotton underwear. Tight trousers and thongs can irritate the barbells.
  • Do not manipulate: Do not turn or move the small barbells. Any unnecessary manipulation increases the migration risk.

Care tip for multiple piercings

With multiple dydoes, a short salt bath is worthwhile: Fill a clean vessel with warm saline solution and submerge the area for 2-3 minutes. This cleans all piercings simultaneously.

Frequently asked questions

How many dydoes do I need for a King's Crown?

A complete King's Crown typically consists of 6 to 12 dydoe piercings, placed symmetrically along the corona of the glans. The exact number depends on your individual anatomy — particularly the circumference of your corona. We recommend proceeding step by step: Start with a pair and extend the crown after complete healing.

Is the migration risk really that high?

Dydoes have a higher migration risk than deeper piercings such as the Prince Albert, as they sit relatively shallow in the tissue of the corona. However, by using longer barbells (which capture more tissue), correct placement and careful aftercare, the risk can be significantly reduced. At XS Piercing, we pay particular attention to stable placement.

Can I combine dydoes with other piercings?

Yes, dydoes combine excellently with other genital piercings. Popular combinations are dydoes with a Prince Albert, with an apadravya or an ampallang. Each combination creates a unique visual and functional result. We recommend having piercings placed one at a time and allowing each to heal completely before adding the next.
